Eyelid surgery?

I am having upper eyelid surgery and wanted to know how long will I be bruised. I hope to be presentable enough to go outside within a week, of course I will wear sunglasses. Am I being realistic. Any experiences will be very helpful.

  1. I had the same operation. I was bruised for 3 weeks. It should be the same for you as well.
  2. It depends on the type of surgery and how healthy you are. To minimize swelling use cold packs and keep your head elevated to prevent blood from pooling around the lids. good luck and best wishes on your surgery.
  3. I'd be curious as to your age. If you are 28, not really that good an idea. If you are a lot older, it'll depend on the type of lid surgery you are talking about. If you are just getting the floppy redundant skin removed, you'll be bruised for a week or so. The ice is a good idea, but be sure you don't place the plastic bag against the skin, use a wash cloth or other towel like cloth. If you don't, you'll end up 'burning' your skin with the ice.
  4. My mom was bruised badly for about 3 to 4 days. She went outside in a week with sun glasses. It depends on your circulation and how fast you heal. I have seen some people with bruising for 2-3 weeks. So, I think it is individual, and not a set thing. Good luck! My mom did great, had no pain and loved the results, it has been a year now and she tells everyone to do it! O^O
  5. It is so variable from person to person. You may know how quickly you heal from scrapes or bruises. Nobody but Ms. Vanity will keep you from going outside. If you are very very fortunate, you may only have a little swelling without bruising. Count on a bruise however. And note, that if you do bruise, it's NOBODY'S fault. Hope you recover quickly.
  6. You may be a little optimistic, as bruising will last anywhere between 1 and 3 weeks around your eyes, and it may be a while till you can wear makeup on your face (your surgeon will give you those details) Upon having your eyelid surgery (also known as a Blepharoplasty) you can go home the same day and your eyelids will feel tight, sore, dry and swollen. Surgeons normally suggest that keep your head elevated (including while sleeping) and to avoid bending over. They suggest that you use a cold compress on your eyes ever few hours, as well as apply eye drops. They will also tell you how to properly wash your face and eyes as to not disturb the work that was done. You can also receive an eye patch to sleep with as to not bump your eyes into anything. For more information on the recovery from this surgery you can find more details here: http://www.newimage.com/cosmetic-plastic-surgery/face/eyelid-recovery.aspx
  7. Yes, bruising will last a few weeks, but you can always help disguise with concealer make up round the eye area.
