Why do people think bad of tattoos/piercings, but think plastic surgery is okay?
I just want to know why a lot of people speak out against tattoos and piercings, but then they go get boob jobs, nose jobs, go to tanning salons, and do other things that are far more dangerous. I never see any anti-boob job paraphanelia, but there are plenty of people against tattoos. And don't say it's because surgery is safer-- it isn't. And it's all body modification, no matter how you look at it. Just an odd thought. Any ideas?

- Never thought about it that way but very good point. Some people can get a little crazy with the face piercings though. Tattoos are cool until you start looking like the lizard man or the tiger woman.
- I think it's because tattoo's can't enhance your appearance. They make you look kinda like a punk b/c that's who had the 1st tattoo's. Surgery makes people look better and tattoo's just take away beauty. I mean, i don't have a problem with tattoo's in moderation and surgery in moderation. It's not my body so I'm not going to tell someone what and how to do something to it.
- I hate it when a job requires tattoo coverups or piercing removal. Cause they scare away customers.? Tattoo and pierced people have to shop somewhere too and maybe they don't feel comfortable at places with straight laced, "normal" looking people. Most of the serial killers looked "normal"
- Tough question, as I am pro-tattoo, and super pro advocate#1 of boob jobs. As a matter of fact, if there are any women reading this right now, STOP READING THIS AND GET A BOOB JOB NOW!!!! Then you can get some tattoos too. More tattoos, and more boobs. YEEAHHHH
- Well, I have nothing big against tattoos or piercings or the people who get them. But to me tattoos and piercings (with the exception of single pierced ears), just don't look good- too distracting. It's personal preference. I also think a lot of people find most cosmetic surgery results are more natural looking than tattoos/piercings.
- Most likely because they think it doesn't show later, where as a tat stays. It's silly anyways. I don't believe in plastic surgery unless you get stuck in a horrific accident.
- Today's society is run by the celebrites....shallowness and un-natural enhancements serve many well....the entertainment industry, the plastic surgeons, the media all get rich. It is all about the money. People want to look like their idols or idolatress...not like themselves. Beauty should come from the inside. Sorry, but tattoos are an offense to the body, too.....when you are old and wrinkled..tattoos look horrible, period.
- not all the people do freak
- what u say makes alot of sense to me
- Plastic surgery leaves a person looking "normal", so to speak, or looking like a younger or improved version of themselves. They do it to conform to society's standards. Tatoos and piercings are decoration added to the body, often in scary, dark, depressing or otherwise potentially offensive designs. They're often done for shock value and as a form of rebellion. So, I don't really see your point. They're two totally different categories.
- idk that is actually a really good qeustion and i am going to give you a star because i like that question
- Nobody ever thinks about stuff like that, they are too busy criticizing everyone else to take a good hard look at their own lives. Everyone is a hypocrite, especially on Y!A.
- You can get plastic surgery and a lot of times no one will know that you did it. Tattoos and piercings are generally pretty obvious. You're right - it is all body modification. But those who are against tattoos and piercing but would do plastic surgery would never see it that way. Everyone's opinion of what enhances or takes away from the body is different. Tattooed/pierced people tend to be more open minded about people in general and don't make quick judgments based on appearance.
- Plastic Surgery has high dollar advertisement. Tattoos are becoming more popular, not more accepted. It's just two different worlds.
