Is cosmetic surgery costs deductible under medical expenses?
Public Comments
- No they aren't. Sometimes, gastric bypass surgery is, if a doctor looks at you and says that you'll die if you don't have it. Otherwise, no, it's cosmetic. Nothing medically pressing about it. There was a case involving a stripper who got breast implants for her job. But they were huge, like HHH's, or something. After an audit, the IRS determined that since they were so ridiculously huge and that she wouldn't normally have gotten them that big, they did allow them as a job expense. Crazy, ain't it.
- Just in some surgeries... the Gender-Reassignment for instance is not.
- No.
- No. Only medically necessary expenses are deductible. Expenses for the improvement of appearance are not considered medically necessary.
- Sometimes. The cost of cosmetic surgery to correct the effects of an accident or disease is deductible. Routine, elective cosmetic surgery is not deductible.
- If a Dr prescribes it for health issues than yes. Like you have a big nose and are having breathing problems due to its size than yesor have big breasts and you have back problems due to that yes. But just to have it to look better no.
