- Whatever you do. Make sure you don't take anything that will thin your blood, such as aspirin, which is something the plastic surgeon should tell you well ahead of time. (You are generally told to stop taking all that 2 weeks ahead of time.) Seriously though, if you are having this procedure done, why don't you ask the surgeon who is performing this for you. He (or she) will tell you what he recommends, which is what you should follow anyways.
- The best and safest thing to do is not take ANYTHING unless your plastic surgeon and/or anesthesiologist tells you to do so. Many supplements contain things that will impair your ability to clot. Many supplements also contain ingredients that are not on the label, so you never really know what you're getting. You definitely want to avoid anything with aspirin, NSAIDs, ginger, ginseng, garlic, vitamin E, gingko, feverfew, grape seed, kava, chondroitin or chamomile. Any of those may cause you to bleed more. Discontinue these at least a week, preferably two, before surgery. Tell your surgeon everything that you are taking, and follow his/her advice about what you SHOULD be taking. Good luck with your surgery.
