  1. You know, your doctor would be the logical one to have asked these questions- when you saw him/her and set up the appointment to have it done. Since you are having them removed as an office procedure, I will assume they are small keloids. The doctor will most likely use a local anesthetic to deaden the skin in the area, using a needle to inject in several spots around them so you don't feel the incisions. Most often they do an oval type incision, and then suture(sew) the straight edges together to leave a straight line scar. The injections are usually the worst part of the deal, as the medication can sting when it goes in. After that, you will feel like the spot is just wooden or something- it won't have feeling at all until it wears off. The ears are not particularly sensitive parts of the body- fortuntely for piercers everywhere - so afterwards it won't feel really painful unless you mess with th ears. You will probably just have small bandaids covering the sutures for a day or so, and then you will make the return trip to the doctor to have them removed. That doesn't hurt at all. Since you are having keloids removed, I hope the doctor warned you that you could form keloids at the sites again. Hopefully they will be smaller than those you are removing, but it remains a possibility all the same. Like as not they will have you use a scar reduction cream during the healing process, something like Mederma, and use it daily for the next few months until the scar is completely healed. There's no need to get too excited about it, really. The worst part is the injections to deaden the skin, and after that putting up with the surgical drape over your face. It shouldn't take that long to do, and you will be back on your way again.
