Is plastic surgery ruining a girls self image and confidence?
20 years ago, you had to work with what you were born with. You had no choice, either you worked your butt off and improved, or you accepted yourself and moved on. Now, if you have the money or credit card, you can "improve" yourself or buy yourself out of an eating problem. Is plastic surgery ruining a girls motivation and self image?

- do not judge others. but, if taken to an extreme, yes!
- I agree. Plastic surgery is basically saying that you aren't good looknig enough, so we'll fix you. being surrounded by all these skin and face and boob alterations, sure a girl is going to feel like maybe there is something wrong with her too. adult women even..if their face is tight and their boobs are ridiculously fake looking, they are going to feel out of place and simple.
- Yes, plastic surgery can't boost low self esteem or give the person a feeling of worth. Shallow and low esteem will still haunt these people, until they deal with the cause of their inadequacies.
- Her self image and motivation is alreasy ruined before she undergos the procedure.
- hmm can't say it does for all... I guess it depends on why they get it. If they depend on it then yes I would say so.... but for the others ( me for example ) I got a breast augmentation. It actually boosts my confidence and my motivation. Without it I could either work out and have nothing there or just gain weight and be over weight and have breasts. Now I have ore confidence. I love to work out more and I take care of my skin my teeth. I just completely take care of myself now.... So I think I more confident and have more motivation. I dont use plastic surgery to lose weight I onlly use to fix sumthin I cant on my own.
- Plastic surgery is an effect not a cause. The cause of the majority of self image issues that people have are mass media dictating what is considered desirable. Basically, you can blame magazines television film and the fashion industry for creating unrealistic standards. Though females tend to be more susceptable to trying to attain said standards, it is a growing issue amongst males aswell and vanity is universal. Once you have those unrealistic images of perfection you start to get effects such as huge increases in plastic surgery, most disturbingly amongst teen girls, you get huge increases in anorexia and other eating disorders and also caused by the same root problem is an increase in youth suicide (depression often results from repeated failures to conform to a socially desirable norm)
- Hey photoguy, many girls have decided to go through plastic surgery these days and I am always against this.To me, inner beauty is the one which is important although it also helps if you are prett on the outside. I think plastic surgery is definitely ruining girls motivation but only in the sense of beauty. Remember this!Sometimes, girls are toooooo motivated to be pretty unil they do strange stuffs which hurt themselves and it is a bad thing! Usually girls look worse than their original look after surgery...
- it's not the plastic surgery that's ruining esteem it's the stars and the women who are advertised as perfect and amazing. girls think they have to look just like that to be those things when really it's in the beholders eye. as far as decreasing motivation of course it's an easy fast fix to a problem. people don't like working there butts off to do anything a lot of people don't realize the esteem boost you get from doing something your best. and as to the self image thing that's also the fault of models everywhere they are tiny and advertisers say they are perfect. but it's not just girls who see this it alters guys perceptions as well so when that's changing they aren't looking at the natural beauty of the human body in it's imperfections where a slightly larger women with a good face was beautiful a 100 years ago now if they are a little meaty they are fat and there for ugly/ not good enough it's both sexes to blame here the standards have changed in both eyes
- well,it's not exactly a new thing, but the media teaches girls & women to value beauty over brains,of course--we all know that. if they are not being taught by parents or loved ones that they are worth more than their waist or bra size then that's what ruins their self image.
- yes i think so .i think it should only be used to help with problems like sagging skin after having children or loosing a large amount of weight.even if you have some kind of defect in your appearance like a crooked nose i feel is ok but there are girls having breast implants for their sweet 16. people are starting to look a little freakish.
- No...granted these doctors are making big bucks!!! But society has allowed that pressure that was place on us by watching and reading ads and giving men the impression that women need to look like playboy bunnies or they are not beautiful. You are now seeing little girls toys that present dolls that show skin in clothing and lots of makeup. Much like the barbie dolls. It projected an image in a girls mind that they should want to look like that. They tend to want to image those things as they grow up. It has nothing to do with credit cards and money. It has to do with how men treat them and how society accepts them. You can see that those beautiful females that carry extra weight for one reason or another is put to the stretching rack and mocked for there looks. What is this? This is a form of daily torment by men and women. They have no choice but to seek this kind of help. Blame the clothing industries, men and women magazines, and ads you see on T.V. Models who have the looks are sick mentally as well as physically from having to starve themselves to be accepted. Perhaps all will change when people ban together and do not purchase magazines that promote those images, watch T.V. that promotes it through advertising, purchasing things that promote big bucks for those who are cashing in on it.
