What is your opinion on double eyelid surgery, a procedure some Asians undergo to look more white?
I am completely against it, and I think it is wrong to surgically change your facial features to conform to standards of beauty in Western culture. For the record, men get this procedure too. iloveserj4ever: This picture is from the anime Bleach. The character's name is Yoruichi.

- Don't waste your money. Being white doesn't solve your problems, I'm white and I have a ton of problems. If you want to make a difference in your life, get an education. This will make them turn their heads more than looks.
- I like your eyes!!!
- I too am against this - as an Asian, one should appreciate one's own appearance for what it is and not try to ape other cultures as "superior".
- I agree that it's a shame when women apply themselves to Eurocentric standards. I remember in college some of my friends used Scotch tape to create the artificial fold, sort of a poor woman's temporary measure. I'm multiracial but mostly Asian - I'm perfectly happy with my eyes.
- keep in mind that by "asian" you include indians and native americans so not all ASIAN ppl do it, but i think if they WANT to then go ahead. you get one life and it is LONG, why spend it being unhappy with yourself? it is unfortunate that they DO feel unhappy with their appearance, i think asian eyes are beautiful.
- I think that it is ridicoulous because it is a waste of money because even if they have it done they still look asian. Why would anyone want to look white? Asians should be happy to be who they are.
- face lifts, hair replacements, liposuction, etc. For those that want them and can afford them.
- It's just the same as someone dying their hair blonde, buying blue contacts, getting relaxers, or getting a nosejob. It's sucks that people don't accept themselves, but it will continue.
- How can having eyelid surgery make a person look like a color? I don't get it.
- they should be ashamed
- Women worldwide envy and emulate white women. Everybody knows this. White beauty is treasured worldwide.
- I'm totally against it. Don't change yourself to conform to others' standards of beauty. We Asians are beautiful, too!
- to each his own
- I'm against it, but if that is what they want to do that's their business but I do agree with you.
- I am against it as well
- I happen to like almond shaped Asian eyes, I have no idea why anyone would change them.
- i think that's sad.......
- see that's the problem i don't think it matters whether or not you're for or against it it's just seems that's what they want to do, pale skin and big eyes have always been features asians found attractive the fact that it makes them look more like my kind is just happenstance. not to mention if it makes 'im happy who cares? you seem to be a anime nut just look at asian history and how women are depicted hell in the anime alone they have eyes the size of pie-plates
- all I can say is damn the western influence
- Some? I think A LOT do that. Its in their culture to worship white skin try to emulate anything 'western'. But its their personal preference if they want to undergo such procedures.... if it makes them gain more self esteem.
- What's with asians wanting to be white? I'm disgusted. And that eye surgery doesn't even work you can still tell they are asian. It looks so ugly i've seen it before.
- im asian (chinese) and i have double eyelids, even though they are small. i dont really have anything against asians doing double eyelid surgery; if it makes the person happy, go for it. but the main reason why asians get the surgery, is not to look white, but because in our culture, big eyes are attractive, just like how it used to be attractive for caucasians 2 have blue eyes and blond hair. only some asians do it 2 look more white, which is stupid. also, many people only compliment on people's eyes if they are double eyelided and big, which makes asians feel that they are not pretty.
- Hey what cartoon is your anime pic from? sorry to be off subject.
