Any thoughts on whether women go to great lengths for their appearance to impress men, or their own gender?
I'm referring to (some) heterosexual women in this case. Specifically I'm thinking of cosmetics, cosmetic surgery and procedures, clothes, purses, hair, shoes, all sorts of beauty products, etc. Thanks!

- that's not what i hear, i hear that women to their great lengths to impress other women, not men.
- I think it's because they are insecure in some way and feel the need to Impress everyone and compete with other women for men. I worked (with about 20 other women) in a factory-type job where there was the potential to get dirty every day, and many of them still wore make-up, and fixed their hair. I just put mine back in a braid, and no make-up. I'm bi, by the way, but was lucky enough to be raised by a mother and grandmother who instilled me with good self worth, and I hardly ever wear make-up, or get "All Dolled Up" unless I'm going out for a night on the town, and I don't look to hook - up or impress anyone. I'm just playing dress-up and having fun.
- Depends, if they can afford it and its how they live and they enjoy it then thats great. If improving their looks will make them feel better and work better even better but if all these things they're doing isnt going to help them in anyway then screw it. I wont ever go so far to please a guy, its rather for my health and my feel. If the guy really loves his girl looks wont bother him unless its for the better of her health.
- Actually both...women want to look good to other women because women can appreciate a beautiful dress or shoes(have you ever heard many men comment about a woman's purse?) but we also want to attract men(if we're straight) and we know if we look enticing we will catch his eye.
- To impress men for sure. It is to their benefit beautiful.
- In all honesty I believe women do these things to impress males. They may claim that they don't but if the majority of guys start saying they hate fake breast and stop dating these women they will try to conform to whatever is hot at the time. For example take Angelina Jolie, when men began to fall in love with her lips and her features women began to increase the collagen shots to the lips. Full lips became the rage. Jennifer Lopez butt was a object of desire and then you start hearing about the need for curves a flat butt was not popular Brazilian butt lifts, spanex and butt injections. Thin was really not all that in. Some women in certain groups have these things naturally if men start to pay attention to certain groups their favorable characteristics will be adopted by other women. Men unfortunately set the tone about what type of women is popular because women are extremely competitive.
- Well, here's a secret, guys tend to prefer the all natural girls, no make up no surgery. I wear it anyway. I tried to stop but I love makeup, it's just fun to put on and I've been wearing it so long, I just feel like my face doesn't look right without it. As for cosmetic surgery, some people need that sh*t. What if your nose makes you look like big bird, or you have no boobs or butt and a huge belly? I mean, I see your point and some girls go too far, but ya'know whatever makes her feel confident. As for over-buying clothing items... well, i do enjoy shopping, but i like to look for items that would look great on my girlfriends as well as myself, so no jealousy there.
- I dress to please my self I don't have to look good for anybody but me
